Below are sales professionals that have said they are willing to talk to YOU to be a “Mentor for a Moment,” or flash mentor.

Flash mentoring/informational interviewing is an informal conversation you can have with someone working in an area of interest to you. It is not a job interview, and the objective is not to find job openings.

By participating in an informational interview, you can expect to:

  • Get firsthand, relevant information about the realities of working within a particular field, industry or position. This kind of information is not always available online.
  • Find out about career paths you did not know existed.
  • Get tips and insider knowledge about how to prepare for and land your first career position.
  • Learn what it’s like to work at a specific organization.
  • Initiate a professional relationship and expand your network of contacts in a specific career field; meet people who may forward job leads to you in the future.

Please review the professionals below and then submit your top five choices using the form right below this chunk of text. We will match you based on availability. We have asked participants to each do 1-2 interviews, and slots will fill on a first-come-first-serve basis. When they reach capacity, they will show “no more interviews available.”

We will open student matching on Tuesday, March 22. Students will have the rest of that week to submit their preferences on the professional they would like to be paired with. You will receive your student match via email from Patti.Chapman@colostate.edu no later than Friday, March 25

We ask that you find one hour between Monday, March 28, and Thursday, April 7 to connect with your professional. The “assignment” students will reflect on your conversation and turn into their professor by Friday, April 8.

After the match deadline, Patti Chapman from the College of Business Career Management Center (patti.chapman@colostate.edu), will send an email introduction to you and the professional. It will then be your responsibility to reach out to the professional and set up a meeting/conversation (via Teams/Zoom/phone/etc), so you can conduct your informational interview. If you would like to discuss how to navigate an informational interview/flash mentor, please stop by the Career Management Center during drop-in hours Monday – Thursday, 10am – 2pm, or schedule an appintment in Handshake.

If you have any questions, please ask your professor or reach out to Patti, Employer Relations Specialist in the CMC, at Patti.Chapman@colostate.edu.

Spring 2022 – L.A. Mitchell’s Class – Please enter your information and the names of the top 5 you’d like to be matched with.

Intellectual Property Sales and Licensing Manager

What is the main focus of your job?

I lead projects (start to finish) involving the sales or licensing of intangible assets. This includes patents, know-how, trademarks, copyrights (for software), IPv4 internet addresses, and internet domain names. For each project, I identify, recruit and manage the required team members, including, financial and business leaders, technical experts, attorneys. As the face of HP to the other company, I engage the CEO and other business leaders of target companies and manage communications to executive sponsors in HP. I perform valuations of intangible assets and negotiate the terms of the deal, including pricing and payment models. No two projects are the same – or even close to the same. Pricing and selling intangible assets can be pretty wild. Let’s talk.
